We pursue applied mathematical research at the interface to engineering, physical and life sciences.

Mathematical Modeling and Simulation Mathematical Modeling and Simulation: Motivated from technical processes involving gas and plasma flows the goal is to provide mathematical tools - typically partial differential equations - for complex situations where standard models can not be used. Very often these new models also trigger the development of new, specialized numerical methods. The efficient implementation of the simulation algorithms is another part of our research.

Computational Mathematics

Computational Mathematics: Broadly defined, our research consists of the development of efficient numerical methods and their analysis for various problems. We focus mainly on discretization techniques of partial differential equations and eigenvalue problems with an important component being interdisciplinary applications.
